Terms of service, in plain English where the law allows

These terms cover your use of this website and set out the general rules behind our client work. Your engagement letter adds the specifics for your project and controls if the two ever differ.

The shadow of a handshake cast by sunlight on a plaster wall
The idea

Clear terms are what let a good working relationship stay simple.

Effective November 1, 2026

These terms of service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Center For Solar LLC (“Center For Solar,” “we,” “us”), a limited liability company with offices at 651 Perimeter Drive, Suite 440, Lexington, KY 40517. By using center4solar.com, including its free tools, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

1. What these Terms cover

These Terms apply to everyone who visits the site, uses a calculator or checklist, or sends us a message. Section 6 also sets out general terms for paid engagements. A paid engagement is governed by a signed engagement letter, which incorporates these Terms. If the engagement letter and these Terms conflict, the engagement letter controls.

2. Site content is general information

Our articles, guides, glossary, FAQs, illustrative scenarios, and sample reports explain how solar economics, tariffs, incentives, and reporting methods generally work. They are written for a broad audience and dated so you can see when they were last reviewed.

Tariffs, tax rules, and program terms change, sometimes with little notice. Content that was accurate on its date may not be accurate when you read it, and it may not fit your situation. Before you act on anything you read here, confirm it against the current source document and, where appropriate, with a qualified professional.

Reading the site, using a tool, or sending us a message doesn’t make you our client. A client relationship begins only when both parties sign an engagement letter.

3. No professional advice

Center For Solar provides non-licensed consulting, financial feasibility analysis, performance analytics, procurement assistance, administrative permitting support, and sustainability advisory services. Neither this site nor our work product provides professional engineering, electrical, legal, tax, accounting, or investment advice. Specifically:

  • We don’t provide engineering, system design, or structural review, and we don’t stamp or sign drawings.
  • We don’t perform electrical work, construction, or inspections.
  • We don’t give legal advice or draft or interpret contracts or leases.
  • We don’t give tax advice or determine whether you qualify for a tax credit or deduction.
  • We don’t provide certified accounting or auditing services.
  • We don’t give regulated financial or investment advice or recommend securities or financing products.

When a question needs a licensed engineer, electrician, attorney, CPA, or registered financial adviser, we will say so and help you prepare questions for them. You are responsible for retaining those professionals. Our scope of services page explains these limits in more detail.

4. Estimates are not guarantees

Production estimates, savings estimates, payback periods, cash-flow tables, emissions figures, and every other projection on this site or in our reports are estimates. They depend on assumptions about weather, equipment performance, degradation, utility rates, tariffs, tax rules, interest rates, and how you use energy. Any of those can turn out differently.

We show our assumptions so you can test them, but we don’t promise that any system will produce a particular amount of energy, save a particular amount of money, qualify for a particular incentive, or pay back in a particular number of years. Actual results will differ from estimates, and the difference can be large.

5. Free tools, checklists, and calculators

Our free tools, including the payback estimator, the ownership comparison, and the proposal red-flag checklist, are offered for education and rough screening.

  • The results depend entirely on the inputs you provide and on default assumptions that may not match your utility, tariff, roof, or contract.
  • Default values are dated and may become outdated.
  • Calculators simplify. They may ignore taxes, fees, rate structures, financing terms, or contract provisions that matter in your case.
  • A tool result isn’t a proposal review, a feasibility study, or a recommendation to buy, lease, sign, or decline anything.

Tools are provided “as is.” Use them to frame better questions, not to make a final decision.

6. General terms for client engagements

These general terms apply to every engagement unless the engagement letter says otherwise.

Scope and fee. Before work starts, you receive a written scope listing deliverables, a timeline, and a fixed fee. Work outside that scope requires a written change that you approve first. Payment terms are stated in the engagement letter.

Your information. Our analysis relies on the documents and data you and others provide, such as bills, interval data, proposals, monitoring exports, leases, and questionnaires, plus public sources and standard financial models. We don’t independently verify every document. If information is incomplete or inaccurate, our conclusions may be too. Please tell us promptly about anything that changes.

Third-party data. We use published tariffs, weather datasets, emission factors, equipment specifications, and similar sources. We aren’t responsible for errors in third-party data, though we will tell you when we notice one.

Deliverables. You receive a written report with an assumptions page, a recorded walkthrough call, and one round of follow-up questions. Reports reflect conditions on their date. We don’t update a delivered report when rules, rates, or facts change unless a new engagement covers it.

Who may rely on a report. Reports are prepared for the client named in the engagement letter. You may share them with your own advisers, lenders, board, or family. No one else may rely on a report without our written consent.

Independence. We take no commissions, referral fees, equipment margins, or payments from installers, manufacturers, lenders, or developers. Our fee is the only money we receive for your engagement. Our independence pledge gives the full commitment.

Confidentiality. We keep your documents confidential and use them only for your engagement, as described in our privacy policy.

Decisions are yours. We compare options and explain trade-offs. Whether to buy, lease, sign, bid, file, or walk away is your decision, made with your licensed advisers where needed.

Ending an engagement. Either party may end an engagement with written notice. Your engagement letter explains how fees are handled for work already performed.

7. Using the website

You may use the site for lawful, personal, or internal business purposes. You agree not to:

  • interfere with the site’s operation or security, or try to bypass anti-spam or security measures;
  • send automated or bulk form submissions, or submit information you know is false;
  • use the site to send malware or unlawful content; or
  • scrape, copy, or republish substantial portions of the site except as Section 8 allows.

We may block access that harms the site or other users.

8. Intellectual property

The text, illustrations, logos, charts, tools, and page designs on this site belong to Center For Solar or its licensors and are protected by copyright and trademark law. You may view, print, and share individual pages for personal or internal use with attribution and a link back. You may quote short excerpts with attribution. Any other reproduction, adaptation, or commercial use requires our written permission.

You keep ownership of the documents and data you send us. You give us permission to use them only to respond to you and to perform your engagement.

When you pay for an engagement, you may use your report for any lawful purpose of your own. We keep ownership of our methods, templates, models, and general know-how, and we may reuse anonymized, non-identifying lessons in our own work. We never publish a client’s documents or identify a client without written permission.

We link to utilities, government agencies, standards bodies, and other sources so you can check facts yourself. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content, accuracy, or privacy practices. A link isn’t an endorsement, and we take no payment for links.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent the law permits, the site, its content, and its tools are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We don’t warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law permits:

  • Website and tools. Center For Solar, its members, employees, and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost savings, or lost incentives, arising from your use of the site, its content, or its tools. Our total liability for any claim related to the site is limited to one hundred dollars ($100).
  • Engagements. Unless your engagement letter says otherwise, our total liability for any claim related to an engagement is limited to the fees you paid us for that engagement.

Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations of liability, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

12. Indemnity

If you misuse the site or violate these Terms, and that causes a claim against us by someone else, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of that claim, including attorney’s fees, to the extent the law allows.

13. Governing law and venue

These Terms and any dispute about the site or an engagement are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any lawsuit must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Fayette County, Kentucky, and you and we consent to those courts’ jurisdiction. Before filing anything, please call or write to us. Most disagreements are faster to solve by talking.

14. Changes, severability, and entire agreement

We may update these Terms. The new version applies from the effective date shown at the top of this page, and it won’t change an engagement letter already signed. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. These Terms, our privacy policy, and any signed engagement letter are the entire agreement between us about their subject matter. If we don’t enforce a provision right away, we haven’t waived it.
