Permitting Support

The paperwork side of going solar, flying in formation

Solar permit paperwork help for Kentucky homeowners, businesses and farms. We collect, organize, track and follow up, so each document lands where it should, when it should. Licensed professionals handle everything technical.

Approval & Incentive Packets take 1–2 weeks to assemble. Interconnection Paperwork Coordination runs from the first form to permission to operate, and we track the whole way.Flat fee, in writingNo commissions, ever

The idea

Paperwork moves faster when it flies in formation: the right document, in the right order, on the right desk.

What solar permit paperwork help covers in Kentucky

A solar project in Kentucky usually needs more approvals than people expect, and our solar permit paperwork help exists because each one comes with its own form, office and clock. A rooftop system on a house in a subdivision might need an HOA review, a local permit, a utility interconnection application, a signed interconnection agreement, an inspection and a meter change before it can legally run. A farm or business project can add lender paperwork, insurance notices or a grant application.

Each office sees only its own piece. You’re the only party who sees all of them, and you have a day job. We give that view to someone whose job is to keep it current.

We do administrative and clerical work: collecting information, organizing packets, maintaining records, tracking applications and coordinating communications among owners, contractors, suppliers, utilities and permitting offices. Technical drawings, engineering, electrical work, inspections and certifications are done by appropriately licensed parties that you or your installer retain. That division is deliberate, and it’s spelled out in our scope of services.

The questions this work answers

  • Which approvals does this project need, in what order, and which can run at the same time?
  • Who signs what? Some forms need the utility account holder; some need a licensed professional.
  • What’s pending right now, with whom, and when do we follow up?
  • When can the system legally run? That’s set by the utility’s permission to operate, not by the installer’s last day on site.
  • Where’s the record? Five years from now, at sale or refinance, can you find the approved application and the signed agreement?

Why permitting support matters in Kentucky in 2026

The rules are moving.

  • Statewide interconnection guidelines are under review. Kentucky’s net metering interconnection guidelines date from 2009. The Public Service Commission is reviewing them in Case No. 2020-00302 and held informal conferences in 2026. Forms and steps can change between one project and the next.
  • Local rules shift too. Lexington’s Urban County Council passed a solar zoning amendment in September 2026, and the mayor vetoed it days later. The rule you read last spring may not be the one that applies when you file.
  • Incentive programs changed. USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program changed significantly in 2026. Anyone counting on a grant should confirm current terms with USDA Rural Development before building a plan around it.
  • Installers closed. Several large residential installers and financiers went bankrupt in 2024–2026, sometimes leaving permits open and applications half-filed. Picking up those threads is administrative work, and we do it. A System Health Check covers the system itself.

In Lexington, the city says all residential solar PV installations need a permit before work starts, and that most solar contractors apply for permits on the owner’s behalf. That’s a common arrangement. It also means the permit is rarely what stalls a project. More often it’s a utility application missing the account holder’s signature, or an HOA packet missing a photo from the street.

Two services, two tracks

Interconnection Paperwork Coordination follows the utility track, from the first application form to permission to operate, across LG&E and KU, Kentucky Power, Duke Energy Kentucky, cooperatives and TVA-served utilities. We track it the whole way.

Approval & Incentive Packets covers everything else that needs a packet: HOA architectural review, local permit application organization, utility program forms and grant or loan applications. Packets take one to two weeks to assemble, and then every deadline goes on the calendar.

Calvin Rudd leads this work. His measure of success is simple: you get a status update before you think to ask for one.

A question to ask before anyone files anything

Whose name is on the electric account, and is it exactly the name that will go on the application? A property held in an LLC or a trust, an account in a spouse’s name, a business that changed its legal name: small differences like these send applications back. We check them on day one, before the first form leaves.

Where our work stops

Boundaries we keep

  • We don't prepare technical drawings, do engineering or perform electrical work; appropriately licensed parties do.
  • We don't conduct inspections or certify anything; your local authority and utility handle inspections.
  • We don't give legal advice or interpret covenants, agreements or ordinances.
  • We can't promise any approval or timeline from a utility, association or government office.
  • We don't sign technical documents or anything that requires a licensed professional.

FAQ

Questions about Permitting Administrative Support

Doesn't my installer handle permits?

Often, yes, for the building or electrical permit. The installer usually doesn't handle your HOA, your lender, an incentive application or your own records. We cover the owner's side and keep every track moving together.

Can you submit applications for us?

When you authorize it and the receiving office or utility allows it, yes. Some forms must be signed by the account holder or a licensed professional, and we prepare everything around that signature.

Do you work outside Lexington?

Yes. We work across Kentucky, meet in person when it helps and handle most paperwork remotely. Requirements vary by city, county and utility, so we confirm them for each project.

Can you speed up a utility or permit office?

We can't change anyone's review time. We can make sure your packet is complete the first time, follow up on schedule and catch problems early, which removes most of the avoidable delays.
