Careers

Careers: careful work, and no sales quota

We're hiring for two solar consulting jobs in Lexington, KY. Nobody here earns a commission, so the only target is getting the answer right.

The idea

Most people throw their utility bill away. We read it like a letter from the future.

Center For Solar is a small, fee-only solar advisory firm in Lexington. We’re hiring an Energy Data Analyst (hybrid) and a Client Project Coordinator (on-site or hybrid). Both roles are described below, along with exactly how to apply.

Solar consulting jobs in Lexington, KY, without a sales quota

Most jobs in solar are tied to a sale: a quota, a commission, a close rate. Ours aren’t. Clients pay us a flat fee, so nobody on the team benefits when a system gets bigger or a contract gets signed. Our independence pledge applies to every employee.

That changes the work. You’ll spend your days reading utility bills, monitoring exports, proposals, lease offers and supplier questionnaires, and writing down what they actually say. New colleagues learn something quickly: the most useful finding in a project is often a number that’s missing. It might be a cash price nobody quoted, a buyout schedule left out of a lease, or a meter that never made it onto the bill list.

What we value in colleagues

  • Skepticism with good manners. Question every number, kindly.
  • Patience with paperwork. A packet that’s complete on the first try saves a client weeks.
  • Saying “I don’t know yet.” Then finding out.
  • Knowing the line. We don’t do work that requires a license, and we tell clients so plainly.

Every model gets two sets of eyes, and every report gets an assumptions page. You’ll be both the builder and the checker. Read more about how the team works and how a client engagement runs.

How we hire

We read every application and reply to every applicant, usually within two weeks. Next comes a 30-minute call with the hiring lead, then a short work exercise based on a realistic, anonymized file. We pay you for the exercise. The last step is meeting the team in Lexington.

How to apply

Email welcome@center4solar.com. Use this subject line format: Application: role title, your full name. For example: “Application: Energy Data Analyst, Sam Whitaker”.

Include:

  • a resume or a short summary of your experience
  • a note of no more than 300 words on why this work interests you
  • your answer to one question for the role you’re applying for

Energy Data Analyst: A proposal estimates 11,800 kWh of production a year. The household uses 9,400 kWh. What would you want to know before calling that a good fit?

Client Project Coordinator: Describe a time you kept a process with several outside parties on schedule. What almost went wrong?

Equal opportunity

Center For Solar LLC is an equal opportunity employer. We make hiring decisions without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation and gender identity), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law. If you need an accommodation at any point in the process, email welcome@center4solar.com and we’ll arrange it.

Open roles

Both roles are full-time and based in our Lexington office.

01

Energy Data Analyst

Lexington, KY · Hybrid. Turn utility bills, interval data and monitoring exports into clean, checked inputs for our models and reports.

02

Client Project Coordinator

Lexington, KY · On-site or hybrid. Keep documents, deadlines and people moving, from the first fit call to the final walkthrough.

Energy Data Analyst: what you'll do

  • Clean and normalize utility bills, 15-minute and hourly interval data, and inverter or monitoring exports.
  • Help build the expected-production baselines we compare real systems against, working with our Performance Analytics Lead.
  • Prepare tariff comparisons and model inputs, and document every assumption you make.
  • Rebuild colleagues' key numbers as the second reviewer on financial models.
  • Draft the charts and tables that go into client reports.
  • Maintain monthly and quarterly data runs for Portfolio Performance Reporting clients.

Energy Data Analyst: what we look for

  • Deep comfort with spreadsheets. Python, R or SQL is a plus, not a requirement.
  • Curiosity about how a utility bill is built: customer charges, energy charges, riders and credits.
  • The habit of asking where a number came from before using it.
  • Clear writing, and the patience to explain a result to someone who doesn't like numbers.
  • Experience in energy or solar is helpful. Careful thinking matters more.

Client Project Coordinator: what you'll do

  • Schedule fit calls and walkthroughs, and send each new client the right document checklist.
  • Keep project files organized and track what's in, what's missing and what's late.
  • Help our Project Coordination Manager assemble interconnection and approval packets and keep the document log current.
  • Follow up with utilities, local offices and homeowners associations, and keep clients updated every week.
  • Travel occasionally within Kentucky for client meetings.

Client Project Coordinator: what we look for

  • Two or more years of coordination, administrative or client-facing work.
  • A calendar you trust, and a talent for remembering the one form everyone else forgot.
  • Friendly, precise writing and a calm phone manner.
  • Comfort with shared drives, e-signature tools and project trackers.
  • A valid driver's license for occasional trips around the state.
