Accessibility statement

Everyone deciding about solar deserves to read the numbers. If anything on this site gets in your way, tell us and we'll fix it or get you the information another way.

The idea

Information about energy should be easy for everyone to reach.

Center For Solar wants center4solar.com to work for people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification, voice control, captions, or simply a small phone in bright sun. Our target is conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.

What we’ve done

  • Semantic structure. Pages use real headings in order, landmarks, lists, and data tables with header cells, so assistive technology can move through them predictably.
  • Keyboard navigation. Every link, menu, form field, and button can be reached and used with a keyboard. Focus is clearly visible, and a skip link jumps past the navigation.
  • Color and contrast. Text and interface elements are checked against WCAG contrast ratios. We don’t rely on color alone to carry meaning, so a red flag in a checklist also has a label.
  • Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, scroll animations and the animated sun-path graphic stay still.
  • Alt text for every illustration. Each illustration has a written description of what it shows and the idea behind it, not just “image.”
  • Accessible calculators. Our free tools can be completed with a keyboard alone. Inputs have visible labels, errors are announced in text, and results appear as readable text rather than only as a chart.
  • Forms. The start a project form uses labeled fields, clear error messages, and no time limits. You can also skip it and call or email instead.
  • Readable writing. We write in plain English, define jargon in our glossary, and keep paragraphs short.

Known limitations

  • Complex charts. Some charts in our scenarios and sample reports compress many numbers into one picture. Where we show a chart, we provide the same figures in a data table or text summary. If you find a chart without one, let us know.
  • Third-party documents. We link to utility tariffs, Public Service Commission orders, and government publications. Many are PDFs we don’t control, and some aren’t fully accessible. We’re glad to read the relevant part to you or summarize it in an accessible format.
  • Embedded security checks. Our forms may use an automated anti-spam check from our hosting provider. If it ever blocks you, email or call us and we’ll take your request directly.

Reports in other formats

Client reports can be provided as accessible documents, in large print, or walked through on a call at a pace that suits you. Tell us what works best when we set up your engagement.

How we test

We run automated accessibility tests on every page before each release, then review key pages by hand with a keyboard and a screen reader. Automated tools catch only part of the picture, which is why your feedback matters.
